ABC Reading Challenge Review: Wicked Lovely

Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1) Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr

My review

rating: 3 of 5 stars
Aislinn (pronounced Ash-ling or Ash-leen) is just an ordinary girl living in the big city, except that she was born with the Sight. She sees what very few others do--the wicked, lovely, mischievous faeries all around. She has been trained by her grandmother to hide her Sight at all times as faeries have been known to blind or kill mortals who can see them.

Keenan, the faerie Summer King, has spent centuries looking for his queen. He chooses a mortal girl causing her to lose her mortality. Then she must make a choice: 1-become a Summer girl and spend enternity as a shallow and smitten follower of Keenan or 2-risk the test which will either result in her becoming his mate and Summer Queen or, upon failing, force her to spend her days as a Winter Girl, unable to touch him without pain, cold and lonely until the next girl comes along. And that next girl is Aislinn.

The menancing and dangerous faery world is revealed in bits and pieces rather than fully-fleshed. The focus of the story remains more on the characters so leaves many unanswered questions about the faeries. The series continues in Ink Exchance and Fragile Eternity so maybe some of the questions are answered there.

I enjoyed the book but at times it felt very YA or teen fiction. Also, while their are no explicit sex scenes it is oft alluded to and sexual freedom seems to be celebrated.
